my journey started in 2009.
You read that right. 2009! I started my blog in my college dorm. I didn’t know what I was doing, except that i loved blogging. I blogged for years: through the rest of college, through graduation, through those difficult first years as a young professional.
In 2013, I got married. And I kept blogging. But I wasn’t making any money and getting hardly any sponsorships. Brands never reached out to me, despite how hard I tried.
In 2015, I had a baby. And I knew it was time to really make it happen. If I wanted to keep blogging, I needed a reason. I really put time and effort into my blog—and it showed. I started getting sponsorships. I started taking on freelance clients thanks to my blog.
Now, nearly 4 years after that deciding moment to really blog, I feel like I know way more than I did in 2009.
You probably know how that feels: you started a blog once, but never did anything with it, unsure of what to do or write. Or, you have a blog but just don’t feel like you’re getting as much out of it as you put in.
I don’t claim to be a blogging expert. But there are a few things I do know. I work full-time as a social media and SEO content strategist, which means I know SEO and social media like the back of my hand.
